Pre-Award Functions
The Sponsored Programs Office performs administrative functions and is able to provide assistance to researchers in the process of developing and funding projects. Our staff and resources enable us to provide the following services:
- SPINPlus allows faculty and researchers to search the on-line database to identify possible externally sponsored support.
- Provide limited technical assistance and advice on organizing letters of intent as well as preliminary and full proposals.
- Evaluate and assist in preparation of contract and grant application forms, including:
- responses to formal RFPs and RFQs,
- determining correct rates for indirect costs and other budget line items,
- reviewing proposals for compliance with all applicable university, state and federal regulations,
- providing directions for obtaining department and college approvals.
- Approve proposals in an administrative capacity for the university, as directed by the Vice President for Research.
- Act as negotiator and liaison between the principal investigator and the funding agency on issues that arise prior to funding during the agency's review of the proposal.
- Review contracts and grants received for acceptable terms and conditions.
- Obtain official university signatures, as required.
- Advise principal investigator of receipt of award and notify the Controller's Office to assign university account number.
- Forward accepted awards to the Contract and Grant Accounting Office for post-award administration.
