Deadlines for Grant and Contract Proposals
Internal Deadline for Grant and Contract Proposals - 2 working days prior to the Sponsor Due date
Each month, the Sponsored Programs Office staff reviews and signs over 100 proposals and this number continues to grow. Since both the Principal Investigator and the Institutional Official signing the proposal are personally responsible for the accuracy of the information it contains we must have sufficient time to review the proposal for accuracy. Insufficient time may result in inadequate time for appropriate review, correction, and certification. Therefore, an internal deadline is required to allow sufficient time to assure that the institutional review and certification is accurate, and the proposal complies with both University and Sponsor policies.
Effective for all proposals on or after February 15, 2003, the administrative portions of grant or contract proposals, supplements and amendments, including electronic proposals, must be received by the Sponsored Programs Office not less than 2 business days prior to the sponsor due date. Proposals received by the Sponsored Programs Office, less than 2 business days prior to the Sponsor due date, may be reviewed. However, we cannot guarantee proposal accuracy if this policy is not adhered to.
The Sponsored Programs Office understands that there may be mitigating circumstances for late preparation of a grant proposal. In these cases we will examine the circumstances on a case-by-case basis and will make every effort to work with you. However, if you are expecting a last second submission, please notify us in advance and we can possibly begin a partial review of your proposal in an effort to work with your truncated timeline.
As the technical portion of the proposal is not required for initial departmental and Institutional review, investigators may submit the administrative portions of their proposals to Sponsored Programs Office, while continuing to complete the technical proposal. After the proposal is submitted to the Sponsor, a copy of the complete proposal must be submitted to the Sponsored Programs Office.
